Tropical Storm Champi Brings Potential Heavy Rain to Eastern Taiwan

Taipei:Eastern Taiwan may experience localized showers and potential heavy rain in Hualien and Taitung counties as Tropical Storm Champi weakens and shifts towards Japan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported on Sunday.

According to Focus Taiwan, northern Taiwan is expected to have cloudy skies with occasional showers, while central and southern Taiwan will see mostly cloudy to sunny weather, with possible afternoon showers in mountainous areas and heavy rain in the southern highlands.

The CWA forecasts daytime temperatures to range from 27 to 30 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan and from 30 to 32 degrees in central and southern regions, with nighttime lows between 22-25 degrees Celsius.

Localized showers are anticipated to continue in eastern Taiwan on Monday, with potential scattered showers north of Taoyuan. The rest of the country is expected to have mostly cloudy to sunny weather, with brief showers possible in southern mountainous areas.

The CWA predicts that on Tuesday and Wednesday, stronger seasonal northeasterly winds will bring cooler temperatures to northern Taiwan, along with showers in eastern Taiwan, areas north of Taoyuan, and the Hengchun Peninsula. Other regions will likely experience mostly cloudy to sunny skies, with brief afternoon showers possible in the central and southern mountains.

As the seasonal winds diminish on Thursday and Friday, predominantly cloudy to sunny conditions are expected across Taiwan. As of 8 a.m. Sunday, Champi was located east-northeast of Taiwan, moving northeast toward Japan at 24 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm In-Fa was approximately 5,000 kilometers from Taiwan and is not expected to directly impact the island.
