Taipei: Two magnitude 4.5 earthquakes struck off Taiwan's east coast at 8:25 p.m. and 8:38 p.m., respectively, on Wednesday, as reported by the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The tremors were felt in parts of Hualien County, prompting concerns among residents.
According to Focus Taiwan, the epicenter of the first earthquake was located in the sea about 23.6 kilometers northeast of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 6.3 km. The second quake had its epicenter offshore as well, situated approximately 23.8 km east-northeast of Hualien County Hall, with a depth of 5.4 km.
No immediate reports of damage have been noted. The intensity of both quakes reached level 3 on Taiwan's seven-tier intensity scale in parts of Hualien County, as per the CWA. The scale measures the actual effects and impact of the seismic activity in the region.
