Typhoon Champi to Impact Taiwan Strongly on Friday and Saturday

Accra:Typhoon Champi is expected to turn northward on Thursday, moving away from Taiwan. However, its impact will be most significant on Friday and Saturday, as reported by the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

According to Focus Taiwan, the CWA might issue a sea warning late Wednesday night or Thursday morning, with the possibility of a land warning on Thursday night. As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, Typhoon Champi was situated approximately 1,680 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi, Taiwan's southernmost tip, moving west-northwest at 25 kilometers per hour. The typhoon features maximum sustained winds of 198 kph and gusts reaching 245 kph, with a storm radius of 250 km.

The strongest effects in terms of wind and rain are anticipated on Friday and Saturday. Rain is forecasted across Taiwan during this period, with heavy or extremely heavy rain likely in the northern regions, as well as Yilan and Hualien counties in the east.

The typhoon is projected to move away from Taiwan by Sunday or Monday, with remaining rain mainly affecting Taoyuan, areas north of the city, and eastern Taiwan.

Additionally, temperatures are expected to cool on Wednesday, dropping from unseasonably warm highs of 31 to 34 degrees on Tuesday to 23 to 25 degrees in the north and 28 degrees in central and southern regions, before rising again on Sunday.
