Taipei:A United States congressional delegation is currently in Taiwan for a four-day visit, where they will meet with President Lai Ching-te and other senior officials, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
According to Focus Taiwan, the delegation is entirely composed of Democratic members and led by U.S. Representative Brendan Boyle, who serves as the ranking member of the House Budget Committee. He is accompanied by Representatives Andrea Salinas and Tim Kennedy.
During their visit, which spans from Tuesday to Friday, the lawmakers are scheduled to engage in discussions with President Lai, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, and other high-ranking Taiwanese officials. The agenda includes topics on U.S.-Taiwan relations, economic and trade issues, technology exchanges, and regional security.
MOFA highlighted that Representative Boyle has shown strong support for Taiwan, having co-sponsored the Taiwan Travel Act, which promotes visits between Taiwanese and U.S. officials, and a resolution advocating for Taiwan's involvement in Interpol. These actions reflect his commitment to fostering closer ties between the U.S. and Taiwan and supporting Taiwan's participation in international organizations.
The timing of the delegation’s visit, just before the Republic of China (Taiwan) National Day on October 10, underscores the U.S. representatives' strong support for Taiwan and the enduring friendship between the two sides. Taiwan is officially known as the Republic of China.
