Taipei:Ride-hailing platform Uber has launched an hourly vehicle charter service in five northern Taiwanese cities. This new offering allows users to book a driver and vehicle for a set duration, rather than being limited to traditional point-to-point trips.
According to Focus Taiwan, the service is being implemented in partnership with local transport companies and is available in Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, and Hsinchu cities. Users can book vehicles for periods ranging from two to ten hours, which is ideal for sightseeing tours, outings with family or friends, and intercity travel.
The service enables users to customize their itineraries and schedule trips anywhere from 48 hours to 90 days in advance. Uber has announced plans to expand this service to other cities and counties in the future.
In introducing the service, Uber emphasized the growing popularity of short trips organized by travelers themselves in Taiwan. Citing a survey from 2025 by the Tourism Administration, Uber noted that independent travelers represent over 90 percent of domestic tourism in Taiwan, with nearly 80 percent of trips being same-day excursions.
