Warm, sunny weather forecast until Wednesday: CWB

Most parts of Taiwan are expected to see warm and sunny weather on Tuesday and Wednesday before seasonal winds begin affecting the island again, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) has forecast.

On Tuesday, daytime highs could reach 24-26 degrees Celsius islandwide, with even higher readings likely inland in southern Taiwan due to a weakening cold air mass, forecasters said.

Clear skies are expected across Taiwan except in the east and the Greater Taipei area, where sporadic showers are possible, according to the bureau.

Despite the warming weather during the day, temperatures are still expected to fall significantly at night, the bureau cautioned, after the mercury hit lows Tuesday morning of 13-14 degrees in western Taiwan and 15-17 degrees in eastern Taiwan.

The lowest temperature in a low-lying area across Taiwan early Tuesday was 7.4 degrees in Luye Township in Taitung County at 4:50 a.m., CWB data showed.

Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), an adjunct associate professor of atmospheric sciences at National Central University, said a similar weather pattern could continue until northeasterly winds pick up around Wednesday evening.

Slightly lower temperatures are likely across the island until March 3, with higher chances of cloudy and rainy weather in northern and eastern Taiwan, he said.
