Woman Sentenced to Life for Suffocating Children Loses Final Appeal

Taipei: A woman sentenced to life in prison for drugging her two children and then suffocating them to death with a pillow last year has had her appeal rejected, Taiwan's Supreme Court said Monday.

According to Focus Taiwan, the woman, surnamed Su (?), was under the influence of alcohol and ketamine when she committed the murders at a New Taipei motel on May 14, 2024.

During the trial, Su argued that she had been in emotional distress and believed that, as the children's mother, she had the right to take their lives. Her attorneys also claimed the killings were motivated by the family's financial difficulties and that she had intended to take her own life as well.

The Supreme Court's ruling is final and cannot be appealed.
