S. Korea vows to take ‘phased measures’ in response to N. Korea-Russia military cooperation
SEOUL — South Korea vowed Tuesday to take “phased measures” against North Korea and Russia over their deepening military cooperation, and urged North Korea to immediately withdraw its troops from Russia.
The presidential National Security Council (NSC) convened a meeting to assess the situation after the National Intelligence Service reported that North Korea has decided to send around 12,000 troops to assist Russia, with approximately 1,500 soldiers already deployed to Russia’s Far East.
President Yoon Suk Yeol has said he would consider appropriate measures if ruling party leader Han Dong-hoon tells him “who is causing what problems,” an official said Tuesday, amid criticism over presidential officials close to first lady Kim Keon Hee.

SEOUL — South Korea is considering sending a team of personnel to Ukraine to monitor North Korean troops being deployed to support Russia, a government source said Tuesday.
Last week, Seoul’s spy agency said North Korea sent some 1,500 special forces to Russia this month to take part in the war in Ukraine. The North is expected to dispatch a total of 12,000 troops from an elite special forces unit, according to an intelligence source. Hyundai Motor Co.’s Indian subsidiary made its debut on the South Asian nation’s stock market Tuesday, marking the South Korean automotive giant’s first overseas listing outside of its home country.
