Buried “Phang Fa Sai – Phang Ploy Thong”

Buried "Phang Fa Sai and Phang Ploy Thong" elephants of the Elephant Conservation Foundation in Chiang Mai Province that were swept away by flash floods nearly 5 kilometers away. Last night (October 5, 2014), there was a burial ceremony for Phang Fa Sai, aged 16, and Phang Ploy Thong, aged 40, who were both blind. They were swept away by a flash flood from the Elephant Care Center of the Elephant Conservation and Environment Foundation into the Mae Taeng River and drowned several kilometers away. The ceremony was held at the spot where the remains were found, which was behind Sibsaen Resort, Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province. Mrs. Saengduean Chailert, President of the Elephant and Environment Conservation Foundation, and staff invited monks to perform the burial ceremony. Elephants were brought in to help clear the way for the religious ceremony. The foundation staff worked together to place flowers in the grave, scatter flowers, and light candles in remembrance. Then, Phra Khru Sangkharak Wiravat W iravatthano of Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan, along with his disciples, covered the remains of the two elephants with robes and canvas and buried them this morning (October 6). The atmosphere was filled with sadness, especially for Ms. Saengduean, the president of the foundation, who saved the lives of the two elephants from abuse. Ms. Saengduan said that the flooding occurred at around 1-2 a.m. and everyone was resting, so they were unable to help the elephants and animals in time. She felt very sorry for what happened.
