Chiang Kun-yu Secures Seventh Consecutive CPBL Gold Glove Award

Taipei:CTBC Brothers shortstop Chiang Kun-yu has once again demonstrated his exceptional defensive skills by winning his seventh consecutive Gold Glove in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). The announcement was made on Thursday as the league revealed its annual defensive awards.

According to Focus Taiwan, Chiang, who has been a consistent winner since 2020, has set a league record for the most consecutive Gold Gloves won by an infielder. His remarkable performance this season included committing only four errors in 425 fielding chances, with 180 putouts, 241 assists, and 57 double plays, achieving a .991 fielding percentage, an improvement from last year's .990.

Chiang's teammate, Sung Sheng-jui, was among the first-time Gold Glove winners this year, securing an outfield award with a .996 fielding percentage. Other notable winners included Wei Chuan Dragons' second baseman Li Kai-wei, who won his fifth consecutive Gold Glove, and TSG Hawks' Chen Wun-jie, who achieved an error-free season to earn his third award.

The CPBL also announced its 2026 all-league "Best Nine" team, with Wei Chuan's John Gant selected as the top pitcher after leading the league with a 1.49 ERA and 136 strikeouts. TSG's Steven Moya received the best designated hitter award for the third consecutive time, thanks to his league-leading 126 hits, 20 home runs, and 90 RBIs.

Both the Gold Glove and "Best Nine" awards were decided by a panel of 41 voters, including representatives from the league's statistics department. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 2 at the Taipei Marriott Hotel.
