Taipei:Nuit Blanche Taipei, an arts festival now in its 11th year, will take place at the Taipei Expo Park on October 31. The event will feature more than 30 art installations and 50 performances under the theme "Night Ka Shi," as announced by the city's Department of Cultural Affairs.
According to Focus Taiwan, the festival will include large-scale installations, sound art, and performances that blend various art forms. These activities will spread across the Yuanshan Natural Landscape Park, Yuanshan and Xinsheng areas of the Taipei Expo Park, and nearby locations such as Minzu East Road and Qingguang Market.
The theme "Night Ka Shi" is inspired by nakasi, a traditional form of live music in Japan where musicians perform spontaneously in public spaces. This concept will be integrated into the festival, allowing visitors to experience art in dynamic and interactive ways as they explore the area.
For the first time, the festival is collaborating with Centquatre-Paris, a public cultural center in Paris. Valérie Senghor, the center's director, has been invited as a guest curator to enhance artistic dialogue between Taiwan and France.
Vincent Yanelle, political counselor and head of the press department at the French Office in Taipei, noted that two French art groups will participate in the festival. Their involvement aims to provide fresh perspectives on Taipei's urban landscape and foster further cultural exchanges and international arts cooperation.
Nuit Blanche, originally launched in Paris in 2002, is celebrated in cities worldwide to make art more accessible and encourage residents to view their surroundings differently. Taipei introduced its first Nuit Blanche in 2016, and this year's event will continue until the early hours of November 1.
