Taipei: A group of eight parliamentarians from seven European countries-Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Poland, Sweden, and Ukraine-arrived in Taiwan on Sunday to begin a six-day exchange with senior Taiwanese officials and NGO representatives. The delegation, led by …½ygimantas Pavilionis, deputy chair of the Lithuanian Seimas’ Committee on Foreign Affairs, is set to engage in discussions with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, and Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang, among others.
According to Focus Taiwan, the visit aims to facilitate exchanges with Taiwanese officials on promoting democratic resilience and building a democratic supply chain between Taiwan and Europe. The group will also explore a defense ministry-funded think tank and an NGO focused on promoting digital diplomacy. Additionally, a visit to the frontline island of Kinmen is planned to gain insights into Taiwan’s history and recent developments.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has emphasized the importance of these interactions in strengthening ties and understanding between Taiwan and the participating European countries. The visit underscores a shared commitment to democratic values and collaborative efforts in areas of mutual interest.
