Politicians and relatives of heroes join the 48th anniversary of 6 October 19 at Thammasat University, Tha Phrachan. The 48th anniversary of October 6, 1976 in 2024 was held at Thammasat University, Tha Prachan. In the morning, there was a merit-making ceremony for 19 monks. Participants included Mr. Chaiwat Tulathan, former leader of the Move Forward Party, Mr. Nattawut Buaprathum, MP for the Prachachon Party, Dr. Weng Tojirakarn, former leader of the NPU, Ms. Thida Thavornseth, former chairwoman of the NPU, Mr. Wasan Phaileekli, National Human Rights Commissioner, and the Thaluwang political activist group who displayed a photo of Ms. Netiporn Senesangkom or 'Bung Thaluwang' during the merit-making ceremony. Then, Mr. Supasawat Chatchawal, President of Thammasat University, gave an opening speech, stating that even after 48 years, Thai politics today still revolve around things that we want to overcome. Personally, I think that every time there is an event like this, we must use the phenomenon of people' s sacrifice or even people's trauma as something to stimulate our society to realize the importance of rights, freedoms, and stability of the country's political system. As the administrator of Thammasat University, I would like to join in remembering the heroes who sacrificed themselves to fight and protect the democratic regime. I believe that even though the event has passed, everyone will still remember and think of the sacrifices of everyone on that day. I would like to see the new generation return to be interested and try to research and understand what happened on October 6, 1976, and that it requires the new generation of young people to make the government democratic. Then, the participants were invited to stand in mourning for the victims of the October 6 incident, recite the names of the heroes, and lay wreaths and bouquets at the October 6, 1976 memorial statue. Representatives from politicians, agencies, and organizations joined in laying wreaths, such as Mr. Somkid Chuekong, Deputy Secretary-G eneral to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs as a representative of the Prime Minister, a representative of the President of the National Assembly, a representative of Thammasat University, the National Human Rights Commission, Mr. Chaturon Chaisaeng, Mr. Sutham Saengprathum, a representative of the Pheu Thai Party, Ms. Nantana Nantvaropas, along with the New Generation Senators, a representative of the Prachachat Party, a representative of the Seri Thamma Party, Mr. Chaithawat Tulathan and Mr. Sarayut Jai Lak, representatives of the Progressive Movement and the Prachachon Party, a representative of the relatives of the October 6 heroes, a representative of the relatives of the October 14 heroes.
