Taipei: A tropical disturbance off the southeastern coast of the Philippines may form into the second tropical depression of the 2025 Western Pacific typhoon season as early as Monday, according to Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA) on Saturday.
According to Focus Taiwan, the CWA stated that while global models predicted varying forecasts for the weather pattern, reflecting uncertainty in its strength and positioning, the current disturbance could gain momentum and grow stronger, potentially becoming the first typhoon of the 2025 season.
CWA forecaster Li Ming-hsiang on Saturday mentioned that if the disturbance were to strengthen into a depression, it could happen as early as Monday. Li further noted that if the disturbance develops into what is currently designated as Typhoon Wutip, it would likely occur on Wednesday.
Regarding Saturday's weather, Li indicated it would be cloudy with a chance of sun across the nation. In the afternoon, Taiwan might experience localized thundershowers, particularly in the northern regions and the mountainous areas across the country.
Precipitation in the north and mountainous areas could intensify into heavy rain after noon, as per the CWA, which also highlighted the possibility of sporadic rainfall in central and southern Taiwan on Saturday morning.
Information from the administration suggested that these weather patterns were due to the effects of a lingering southern wind present throughout the nation. The CWA forecasted that highs around Taiwan on Saturday would range between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius, potentially rising to around 36 degrees in mountainous areas in the south.
