Taiwan Auto Parts Maker Denies Allegations of Bomb Development Aid to Russia

Taipei: Taiwan Rung Cherng Suspenparts Co. refuted claims on Monday regarding its involvement in aiding Russia's development of guided bombs. The allegations, originally reported by the online military magazine Defence Blog, were dismissed by the company as baseless and unfounded.

According to Focus Taiwan, Rung Cherng's vice president, Chen Shu-mei, expressed surprise over the allegations made in the Defence Blog report, which suggested that the company had supplied essential components to bolster Russia's bomb manufacturing capabilities. The report, citing Ukrainian activist Vadym Labas, accused the Taiwanese company, referred to as TRC, of modifying and producing servomechanisms for Russia's guided bombs, specifically the UMPK system that converts unguided bombs into guided munitions.

The report, dated Saturday, alleged that TRC had made at least five modifications to the product design at Russia's defense industry's behest, with these changes reportedly ongoing. Other media outlets echoed claims that a Taiwanese firm, identified as TRC, had provided traction control systems used in Russia's military bomb development.

This identification led to speculation pointing at Rung Cherng, which markets itself as TRC on its official website. However, Chen clarified that TRC is merely an abbreviation for the company's English name and not a product they manufacture. She emphasized that Rung Cherng's primary products include suspension systems and chassis parts, distancing the company from any involvement in bomb manufacturing.

Chen further revealed that Rung Cherng had received approximately five emails from Ukraine since December, accusing the company of selling products to Russia for bomb production. Despite these accusations, the company's order volumes remained unaffected. Nevertheless, Chen lamented that the recent media reports have tarnished Rung Cherng's reputation, reiterating that the allegations lack any basis.

Rung Cherng prides itself on being a diligent Taiwanese enterprise that strictly adheres to international laws and governmental regulations. To safeguard its reputation and interests, the company is considering legal action against those responsible for spreading the false allegations.
