Chilly Weather Forecast for Northern Taiwan as Cold Air Mass Arrives

Taipei: Temperatures in northern Taiwan are expected to drop significantly on Sunday with the arrival of a cold air mass that will persist through Thursday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

According to Focus Taiwan, on Saturday night, temperatures were anticipated to be around 15-16 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan, with central and southern regions experiencing 17-20 degrees, and 21-22 degrees in the east. With the cold air mass's arrival, the CWA forecasts that temperatures on Sunday and Monday will range from 10-18 degrees in the north, 12-20 degrees in central areas, 14-24 degrees in the south, and 14-23 degrees in the east.

The CWA has issued cold surge advisories effective from Sunday evening, cautioning that temperatures may fall below 10 degrees in Sanzhi District, New Taipei, and mountainous regions in Hsinchu and Miaoli counties. There is also a possibility of snowfall at elevations above 3,000 meters in the central and northern mountains on Sunday and Monday.

The chilly weather is expected to continue in northern Taiwan from Tuesday to Thursday, while central and southern regions will see warmer daytime temperatures but a sharp 10-degree drop at night. Temperatures are anticipated to rebound on Friday, although there will still be a notable difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures in western Taiwan.

In terms of precipitation, sporadic showers are likely across most of Taiwan on Sunday, with some areas experiencing cloudy skies. On Monday, occasional showers are predicted in eastern Taiwan and mountainous regions in the west, while other areas will be cloudy to sunny. From Tuesday through Thursday, Hualien and Taitung counties are expected to have sporadic showers, with most other regions being sunny to cloudy.
