AIDC Partners with Shield AI to Develop Advanced Drone Ecosystem

Taipei: Taiwan's Aerospace Industrial Development Corp. (AIDC) has announced a strategic partnership with U.S.-based defense technology firm Shield AI to build a sophisticated UAV ecosystem aimed at enhancing Taiwan's defense capabilities. According to Focus Taiwan, AIDC disclosed on Monday that a formal Teaming Agreement has been signed with Shield AI to bolster Taiwan's aerospace industrial base through collaborative technological innovations. The agreement will specifically focus on areas such as sustainment, training, autonomy, and integration to ensure the deployment, support, and scalability of Shield AI's products in Taiwan. A spokesperson from AIDC emphasized that combining Shield AI's cutting-edge mission autonomy and aircraft, like the V-BAT drone, with AIDC's extensive aerospace manufacturing experience will significantly boost Taiwan's defense and deterrence capabilities. This collaboration is also anticipated to energize Taiwan's local drone and aerospace industry. The partnership will see AID C providing maintenance services for Shield AI products within Taiwan, eliminating the necessity for these products to be serviced in the U.S. Concurrently, Shield AI will focus on training and developing engineering technology talent in Taiwan to foster trust and build technological capabilities within the military sector. Both companies plan to integrate their software and hardware resources to deliver highly efficient and competitive products. Shield AI President and Co-founder, Brandon Tseng, expressed optimism about the long-term partnership, highlighting its potential to accelerate Taiwan's local drone and aerospace industry. AIDC also indicated that this collaboration could lead to the production of Shield AI drone components in Taiwan, aiming to increase local content in future products and stimulate rapid growth in Taiwan's UAV industry. According to Shield AI, the company will showcase its innovations at the upcoming Taipei Aerospace and Defense Technology Exhibition (TADTE). Shield AI, establish ed in 2015, is renowned for its intelligent systems designed to protect service members and civilians, including notable products such as the V-BAT aircraft, Hivemind Enterprise, and Hivemind Vision product lines. Their V-BAT drones have been utilized by Ukrainian forces in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
