Taipei Mayoral Candidates Intensify Campaign Efforts, Lend Support in Kaohsiung

Taipei:Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an's campaign urged supporters to participate in a march and rally on November 14, while his Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) rival, Puma Shen, led a campaign motorcade through two districts in Taipei, intensifying their efforts ahead of the local elections.

According to Focus Taiwan, the mayoral candidates are also supporting their party's candidates in Kaohsiung. Chiang attended a rally in person, whereas Shen sent a prerecorded video message, with both events occurring three weeks before the November 28 elections.

At a press conference, Chiang's Kuomintang (KMT) campaign introduced a poster for the march, highlighting the character "an" (安) in his name to symbolize reassurance and stability. The march, initially announced on Thursday, will commence at 230 p.m. from two locations Chiang's campaign headquarters on Nanjing East Road and Daan Park, culminating in a rally outside Taipei City Hall. KMT Legislator Lee Yen-shiu stated that Chiang would join supporters on one of the routes.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Lee Yang participated in Shen's motorcade starting from the LOHAS Park extension in Neihu, with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim slated to speak at the final stop at Dahu Park. Before the motorcade, Shen mentioned his invitation to Lee was related to his policy proposals for Neihu and Nangang but did not elaborate further.

In Kaohsiung, Chiang appeared alongside KMT mayoral candidate Ko Chih-en in Cishan District, advocating for stronger cooperation between Taipei and Kaohsiung. Taiwan People's Party Chairman Huang Kuo-chang also expressed support for Ko, who promised to address resource distribution disparities if elected. At a DPP rally in Gangshan District, President Lai Ching-te and Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai supported mayoral candidate Lai Jui-lung. Shen, in a video message, encouraged the audience to motivate their friends in Taipei to vote for him and secure victories for the DPP in both cities.
