Taipei: The United Kingdom's National Technology Adviser Dave Smith is set to lead an impressive contingent of 34 British semiconductor business representatives to SEMICON Taiwan 2025, which is slated to occur from September 10-12 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, as reported by the U.K. representative office to Taiwan.
According to Focus Taiwan, Smith expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Taiwan to spearhead the U.K. delegation, emphasizing the importance of ongoing semiconductor discussions that build on established relationships and trust. Smith previously led a U.K. business delegation to Taiwan for SEMICON 2024, highlighting the continuity in efforts to forge strong ties in the semiconductor industry.
Smith underlined the synergy between the U.K.'s research and development capabilities and Taiwan's renowned semiconductor manufacturing prowess, suggesting that this partnership could drive the future of global technology. U.K. representative to Taiwan, Ruth Bradley-Jones, also expressed her anticipation for attending the event, marking her debut since assuming office in February. She noted the alignment in values, goals, and ambitions between the U.K. and Taiwan, emphasizing their complementary strengths in innovation, R and D, and large-scale manufacturing.
The U.K. delegation comprises companies with expertise in various sectors, including photonics, quantum technology, memory, chip design, compound semiconductors, and advanced packaging. This year's group is notably larger than those that attended in 2023 and 2024. During their visit, the delegation plans to tour major Taiwanese semiconductor companies, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., United Microelectronics Corp., and Powertech Technology Inc.
Additionally, the British Office Taipei will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Taiwan's representative office in the U.K. to collaborate on semiconductor development and participate in the third U.K.-Taiwan Semiconductor Dialogue in Taipei.
SEMICON Taiwan 2025 is expected to host over 1,200 semiconductor and technology firms, featuring more than 4,100 booths and drawing an estimated 100,000 industry professionals, making it one of the most significant semiconductor events globally. The British Office Taipei continues to represent U.K. interests in Taiwan, despite the absence of official diplomatic ties.
