Taipei: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) of Taiwan lifted its sea warning for Tropical Storm Danas at 5:30 p.m. Monday, after the storm moved further north, but kept a heavy rain alert in place for southern Taiwan. The storm had been the first named storm to make landfall in Taiwan during the 2025 Pacific typhoon season.
According to Focus Taiwan, the storm was located at 220 kilometers northeast of the Matsu Islands at 5 p.m., moving north-northwest. It was expected to turn west-southwest at a speed of 6 km per hour, with forecasts indicating the storm's speed would increase to 10 km per hour.
The sea warning, which covered waters off northern Taiwan, was lifted as Danas continued to weaken after making landfall as a typhoon in Chiayi County late Sunday night. Despite the lifting of the sea warning, the CWA maintained a heavy rain advisory for several regions.
The advisory, issued at 4:15 p.m., warned of potential sudden downpours or localized heavy rain of 80 millimeters in 24 hours or 40 mm in one hour in areas including Keelung, northern coastal districts in New Taipei, northern Taipei, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung, until Monday night.
As of 2 p.m., the storm had resulted in two fatalities, both occurring in Tainan, and 502 injuries, primarily in southern Taiwan. Additionally, more than 407,000 households were reported to be without power, as noted by the Central Emergency Operation Center.
