Prague: Taiwan's Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang is set to lead a delegation of lawmakers on a European tour starting Saturday, with planned visits to the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Netherlands. The tour aims to strengthen bilateral ties through visits to European parliaments, think tanks, and Taiwanese businesses abroad.
According to Focus Taiwan, the delegation's itinerary includes meetings with European parliamentarians, such as John McGuinness, deputy speaker of D¡il ‚¬Å¡¬°ireann in Ireland, and Richard Faulkner from the UK's House of Lords. The tour seeks to foster positive interactions and enhance cooperation in trade, economics, and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Europe.
In the Czech Republic, Chiang will attend the opening of an exhibition titled "100 Treasures, 100 Stories: Treasures from the National Palace Museum" at the National Museum in Prague. The exhibition, running from September 11 to December 31, showcases items from Taiwan's National Palace Museum and highlights the growing exchanges between the two institutions since they established sister ties in September 2022.
Chiang expressed gratitude to the Czech parliament for supporting the exhibition, which was planned during his visit to the country in July last year. The Taiwanese delegation accompanying Chiang includes Yang Chiung-ying from the Kuomintang (KMT), Chen Hsiu-pao from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, and Lin Yi-chun from the Taiwan People's Party.
