Tainan: Wu Shu-jen, the wife of former President Chen Shui-bian, was hospitalized on Friday after collapsing at her residence in Tainan. She reportedly stopped breathing during the incident, as confirmed by the southern city's fire bureau.
According to Focus Taiwan, the Tainan City Government Fire Bureau received a report that the 73-year-old Wu had collapsed, was not breathing, and had no pulse. A call handler provided first aid instructions over the phone while dispatching paramedics and an ambulance to the scene.
Wu was resuscitated en route to Tainan Sin-Lau Hospital and was conscious upon arrival. She was later admitted to a ward for observation, with hospital staff stating that no further details would be released to respect the family's privacy.
Wu served as Taiwan's first lady from 2000 to 2008 during Chen's presidency from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). She has been in a wheelchair since a 1985 accident at a post-election event for her husband that left her paralyzed from the waist down.
